English for International Learners – 1:1 Personalised Learning

Build confidence in English for school, study and everyday life while developing the skills to communicate and succeed.

English for International Learners – 1:1 Personalised Learning provides individual English-language support for learners who are studying, living or preparing to learn in an English-speaking or English-medium environment.

Lessons are tailored to the learner’s current English level, age, academic needs and personal goals, helping them communicate more confidently and participate successfully in school, study and everyday life.

The course brings together the four core language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, while developing vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and overall communication. Rather than following one fixed programme, lessons are adapted to the individual learner so that teaching can focus on the areas where support will have the greatest impact.

For learners attending an international or English-medium school, lessons can help develop the language needed to understand lessons, follow instructions, participate in discussions, read academic texts, complete written work and communicate confidently with teachers and classmates.

Learners may also receive support with everyday English, helping them become more comfortable using the language in unfamiliar situations and expressing their ideas naturally and accurately.

What learners can develop

  1. Greater confidence speaking and communicating in English
  2. Stronger listening and comprehension skills
  3. Improved reading fluency and understanding
  4. Clearer and more accurate written English
  5. Broader everyday and academic vocabulary
  6. Stronger grammar and sentence construction
  7. More natural pronunciation and spoken fluency
  8. Confidence participating in lessons and discussions
  9. Greater understanding of classroom and academic language
  10. Ability to explain ideas, ask questions and seek clarification
  11. Greater confidence adapting to an English-medium learning environment
  12. Increasing independence when using English

Lessons are delivered live online, 1:1 with an experienced teacher, providing a supportive environment in which learners have plenty of opportunity to use English actively. Teachers can adjust the pace, language level and activities throughout the lesson and provide immediate feedback and clarification.

Where appropriate, lessons can incorporate conversation, reading activities, listening practice, vocabulary development, grammar in context, writing tasks, pronunciation work and language connected to the learner’s school subjects or everyday experiences.

For learners who are new to an English-medium school or international learning environment, teaching can also focus on the practical language needed to settle in, understand expectations and become increasingly confident and independent.

As the learner progresses, lessons can evolve with them. A learner may initially require significant support with everyday communication and comprehension before gradually moving towards more sophisticated academic vocabulary, reading and writing.

This makes the course particularly suitable for international learners who need broader, personalised English support, rather than tuition focused exclusively on conversation or advanced Academic English.
