AS & A Level English Literature – 1:1 Personalised Learning provides advanced, individual support for learners studying English Literature at AS or A Level. Lessons are tailored to the learner’s examination specification, prescribed texts, current level, strengths and areas for development, helping them deepen their understanding of literature, develop sophisticated analytical skills and prepare confidently for assessments and examinations.
Teaching can complement school or college study, provide additional support with challenging texts, extend confident learners or offer structured revision and examination preparation. Because lessons are personalised, teaching can focus closely on the specific novels, plays, poetry and other literary works the learner is studying.
Learners develop increasingly sophisticated approaches to close reading and literary analysis, exploring how writers use language, structure and form to shape meaning. They consider themes, characters, relationships, narrative perspectives and literary techniques while developing thoughtful and independent interpretations supported by carefully selected textual evidence.
At AS and A Level, learners are also encouraged to consider literature within broader historical, social, cultural and literary contexts. Where relevant to the specification, lessons can introduce different interpretations and critical perspectives, helping learners evaluate ideas rather than simply reproduce established readings of a text.

Where appropriate, lessons can incorporate close reading, annotation, critical discussion, quotation analysis, comparative work, essay planning, model responses, timed writing and past-paper practice.
As examinations approach, teaching can become increasingly focused on revision of prescribed texts, developing flexible arguments, planning under timed conditions, practising examination responses and refining examination technique.
